Hello, there!

Let’s kick off this week with a very cool slang verb in Spanish: camelar. Here’s how it’s used:

1. to persuade or deceive someone

Lo cameló para que le prestara dinero.
She wangled some money off him.

Me cameló para que le cuidara el gato dos semanas.
He talked me into looking after his cat for two weeks.

Me camelaron cincuenta dólares.
They conned me out of fifty dollars.

Esa chica está intentando camelar al jefe por todos los medios.
This girl is trying to sweet-talk the boss in every way.

2. to seduce or make someone fall in love

Es increíble cómo camela a las chavalitas jóvenes.
He really knows how to get all the young girls running after him.

Pues nos conocimos, la camelé en una semana y nos casamos enseguida.
We met each other, I made her fall in love with me in a week and we got married right afterwards.
