¡Hola! How are you doing today?

When we speak a foreign language it is of utmost importance to be able to ask questions properly and we are going to start with the questions words en español. Here are the most common ones:

Qué: what

¿Qué estás diciendo? [What are you saying?]
¿Qué quieres de regalo de Navidad? [What do you want for your Christmas present?]
¿Qué vamos a hacer hoy por la noche? [What are we going to do tonight?]

Por qué: why

¿Por qué le dijiste eso? [Why did you say that to him?]
¿Por qué no empiezas a aprender francés? [Why don’t you start learning French?]
¿Por qué ella se fue tan temprano? [Why did she leave so early?]

Cuándo: when

¿Cuándo descubrió Cristóban Colón la América? [When did Christopher Columbus discover America?]
¿Cuándo empiezan a vender los boletos para el concierto de Thalía? [When do they start selling the tickets to Thalia’s concert?]
¿Cuándo vas a darme la respuesta? [When are you going to give me the answer?]

Dónde: where

¿Dónde has puesto mis cosas? [Where did you put my things?]
¿Dónde te vas a quedar en tus vacaciones? [Where are you going to stay during your vacation?]
¿Dónde queda la iglesa? [Where is the church?]

Cómo: how

¿Cómo descubriste donde yo estaba? [How did you find out where I was?]
¿Cómo estás? [How are you?]
¿Cómo te llamas? [What’s your name?]

Cuál: which

¿Cuál tren debo tomar? [Which train do I take?]
¿Cuál es tu impresión sobre eso? [What’s your impression about this?]
¿Cuál fue la cosa más loca que has hecho en tu vida? [What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done in your life?]

Quién: who

¿Quién dijo eso? [Who said that?]
¿Quién descubrió Brasil? [Who discovered Brasil?]
¿Quién quiere ir conmigo? [Who wants to go with me?]

Cuánto(a): how much

¿Cuánto dinero todavía tenemos? [How much money do we still have?]
¿Cuánto queda para llegar? [How much do we still have to go to get there?]
¿Cuánto tiempo necesitas para hacer eso? [How much time do you need to do that?]

Cuántos(as): how many

¿Cuántos años tienes? [How old are you?]
¿Cuántas sillas hay en el aula? [How many chairs are there in the classroom?]
¿Cuántos libros tenemos que comprar? [How many books do we have to buy?]

Tip: All question words have a tilde (´).
