Flying to Sweden Posted by on Jul 13, 2011 in Uncategorized

When you book your flight to Sweden, you should of course check the cheapest and/or quickest (depending on your personal preferences) methods of getting to your final destination within the country. Check online for the closest airports to your destination, or see if you can take the cheapest flight and ride a train the rest of the way. European trains tend to be very comfortable and well-maintained, so it’s barely an inconvenience if you don’t mind a longer ride. If you do mind, depending on the destination, you may or may not be able to avoid some ground transportation. And while flights are quicker (for long distance anyway), they can cost 10x the price of taking a train or bus!

But to get to Sweden, before you travel within the country, you’ll most likely fly there unless you would like to take a train from somewhere else in Europe. When you fly to Stockholm, though, be weary of where you’ll actually end up. There are three different airports in the Stockholm area: Arlanda (the largest), Skavsta (the second-largest), and Bromma (the third-largest).

They’re not extremely far from each other, but if your destination is Uppsala, you probably don’t want to fly into Skavsta. (Uppsala is north of Arlanda.) If your destination is Nyköping, though, then Skavsta is the perfect airport to arrive at since it lies in Nyköping.

So when you book your flight, check to see which airport you would fly into relative to your destination. You could save your watch or your wallet—or maybe even both!

The main train operator in Sweden is SJ (http://www.sj.se/), but if you want to travel more cheaply, you can take a bus provided by Swebus (http://www.swebus.se/) or SL (http://sl.se/). Alternatively, you can of course take a taxi.

Hope this information was useful; hope to see you in Sweden soon! 😉

Remember about Flygbussarna that will take you from the airport to the city 🙂

  2. Nikki:

I took the Swebus from Arlanda into the centre of Stockholm which was great: a really good price since it’s quite a long journey, and the coach was lovely AND empty!

  3. Andreas:

Remember there is also the express train that takes 20 minutes. It’s not cheap but if you’r lazy and in a hurry like me you want to be there already with a minimum of effort ^^
