Minecraft – a Swedish gaming success Posted by jennie on Apr 25, 2011 in Culture
Swedes are not only good at car manufacturing and pop music – lately we have proven to be brilliant game developers as well. The game Minecraft is one example of this, a indie game hit that everyone is talking about at the moment. The game has an impressive 7 094 329 registered users, and only in the last 24 hours, 45 564 people have registered! So what’s all the fuzz about, then? Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, so you better make sure to build a shelter before that happens. It might sound – and look – a bit simple, but the reviews are spectacular and trust me, this game should come with a highly addictive-warning…
You will find Minecraft here. Also, click here to watch a documentary (taster only!) about the man and the development studio behind the success, Marcus Persson and Majong Specifications.
And, if you are up for more Swedish games, make sure to check out Haven & Hearth – another Swedish indie gaming success. Haven & Hearth is a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) set in a fictional world loosely inspired by Slavic and Germanic myths and legends.
Enjoy!
