If your vocabulary level is decent, there is a mnemonic trick to help you remember which consonant belongs to which class.  In the following sentences, the first consonant of each word is one of that class. These are the best I can find online. If you know of better ones, please share in the comment section below.

 

High Class

ข, ฉ, ฐ, ถ, ผ, ฝ, ศ, ษ, ส, ห

 

Mnemonic: ผี ฝาก ถุง ข้าวสาร ให้ ฉัน

Word for word: ghost handed bag uncooked rice gave me

Translation: The ghost left a bag of uncooked with me.

 

Not used: ฐ ศ

 

 

Mid Class

ก, จ, ฎ, ฏ, ด, ต, บ, ป, อ

 

Mnemonic: ไก่ จิก เด็ก ตาย (เฎ็ก ฏาย) บน ปาก โอ่ง

Word for word: chicken peck children die (children die) on mouth container

Translation: The chicken pecked the children to death on the mouth of the container.

 

 

Low Class

ค, ฆ, ง, ช, ซ, ฌ, ญ, ฑ, ฒ, ณ, ท, ธ, น, พ, ฟ, ภ, ม, ย, ร, ล, ว, ฬ, ฮ

 

Mnemonic: งู ใหญ่ นอน อยู่ ณ ริม วัด โมฬีโลก

Word for word: snake big sleeping at rim temple Nolelok

Translation: The big snake is sleeping at the rim of Wat Nolelok

 

Mnemonic: พ่อ ค้า ฟัน ทอง ซื้อ ช้าง ฮอ

Word for word: father sell teeth gold buy elephant strong

Translation: The [male] salesman with gold teeth buys a strong elephant.

 

Not used: ฆ, ฌ, ฑ, ฒ, ธ, ภ

 

This last mnemonic is probably harder to remember than just memorizing the letters, but it does include all low class consonants (including the obsolete ones).

Mnemonic: ฅน เฒ่า ใช้ โซ่ ยักษ์ มัด ฮูก ฟาง ธง ทาส และ ฆ่า งู ใหญ่ ณ รั้ว วัด เฌอ โฑ ฬี เภา ใน คืน เพ็ญ

Word for word: people old use chain giant tie up owl straw flag slave and kill snake big at fence temple Nertolepow in night full moon

Translation: The old man/people used a giant chain to tie up an owl, straw, flag, and a slave to kill a big snake at the fence of Wat Nertolepow during a full moon.
