In this post, we revise the different ways of negation (النفي) in Arabic.

In Arabic, we usually use special particles to negate different constructions. Below is a list of the common ways of negation.

Present tense verbs are negated by (لا)

Past tense verbs are negated by (ما) or by (لم + present tense)

Future is negated by (لن + present tense)

Nominal sentences are negated by (ليس)

Adjectives and nouns are negated by (غير)

Now try to negate the following constructions:

 في غرفة صفنا شبابيك كثيرة

حصل خالد على تقدير “ممتاز”

يأخذ السفر من بيروت إلى دمشق وقتاً طويلاً

ستبقى جدتي معنا إلى آخر هذا الأسبوع

من المسلمين

متعاون
