Some of my favorite Sprichwörter Posted by on Jan 30, 2009 in Uncategorized

Guten Abend,

Da es Freitagabend ist, I felt like switching gears by sharing some of my favorite proverbs with you. So here we go:

  • Man kann einen Menschen nichts lehren, man kann ihm nur helfen, sich selbst zu entdecken…

We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves – Galileo Galilei

If you treat an individual…as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Two quite opposite qualities equally bias our minds – habits and novelty – Jean de la Bruyère

I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious – Albert Einstein

What I don’t know won’t hurt me – Not sure who came up with that on, but I like it just the same

Haben Sie einige Sprichwörter that you would like to share with me? I’d love to hear them!

Bis bald,

Nathalie

My favourite saying is : Es ist noch kein Meister vom Himmel gefallen. No-one is born a master. When I think of this I keep working on my German
    language.

  2. Gil Emmert:

When the cat is not at home, the mice dance on the table!

    Er ist schwer auf Draught!
    He is a live wire!

  4. Louise:

Actually what Es ist noch kein Meister vom Himmel gefallen says is “as of now, no master has simply fallen from heaven”

  5. Louise:

When my sisters and I got the giggles my mother used to tell us “Es gibt anderes Wetter!” … or other weather is coming. In other words – keep up the giggling and eventually you’ll end up in trouble. LOL
