In the previous week, you have learned “에” which has meaning of “To, at, in, on”. Today you will learn “에서” which has meaning of “From, at, in”. “에서/ae seo/” is very high frequency, so you have to be familiar with this particle. I will show you each examples with the meaning below.

From

저는 영국에서 왔어요/ jeo nun mi kook ae seo what eo yo/ I am from United Kingdom.

지금 막 집에서 왔어요/ ji kum mac jib ae seo what eo yo/ I just came from my house.

In/at

저는 뉴욕에서 친구를 만났어요/ jeo nun New York ae seo chin goo lul man nac eo yo/ I met a friend in New York.

저는 매일 공원에서 축구를 해요/ jeo nun mae il kong won ae seo chook koo lul hae yo/ I play soccer every day in a park.

As you see the examples above, “에서” has meaning of “At/in” when there is following action verbs such as 만나다/to meet, 하다/to do, etc.

**Exception: 살다/to live – 살아요. When there is a sentence using this verb, it is okay to use “에/에서” both. For instance, 저는 한국에 살아요/저는 한국에서 살아요/ I live in Korea. Please watch the video below.
