Marhaba! As you might know already, citizens of the United States will be heading to the polls in early November to elect a new President. Today, I want to share with you the 10 most interesting facts about the elections in Arabic. I have translated them to Arabic and I have also transliterated all these facts. Again and similar to earlier posts, I always want you dear Arabic lovers to be able to discuss the most recent and compelling news in Arabic! Make sure to learn one or all of these facts and you can always practice with your Arabic speaking friend, neighbor, or colleague. Enjoy!

1) The elections for President of the United States are held every four years.
يقام انتخاب رئيس/ة جمهورية الولايات المتحدة الاميركية كل أربعة سنوات
Yuqam intikhab ra’is/sat jumhuriyat al-wilayat al-muttahida al-amrikiya kul arba‘at sanawat.

2) Election day comes on the first Tuesday of November.
يقع يوم الانتخاب في أول ثلاثاء من شهر تشرين الثاني
Yaqa‘ yawm al-intikhab fi awwal thulatha’ min shahir tishrin al-thani.

3) Americans will head to the polls on November 8.
يتجه الاميركيون الى صناديق الاقتراع في 8 تشرين الثاني
Yattajih al-Amerikiyun ila sanadiq al-iqtira‘ fi thamani tishrin al-thani.

4) The candidate in the race to become President should be at least 35 years old.
على المرشح/ة في السباق للرآسة أن ي/تكون عمره/ها خمسة وثلاثون على الاقل
Ala al-murashah/ha fi al-sibaq lil-ri’asa an ya/takun ‘umruhu/ha khamsat wa-thalathun ‘ala al-aqal.

5) The candidate to run for President should be a natural born American citizen.
على المرشح/ة في السباق للرآسة أن ي/تكون مواطن/ة مولود/ة في الولايات المتحدة الاميركية
Ala al-murashah/ha fi al-sibaq al-ri’asi an ya/takun muwatin/na mawlud/luda fi al-wilayat al-muttahida al-amerikiya.

6) Any American above 18 years is eligible to vote.
يحق لكل أميركي بلغ الثمانية عشر من العمر التصويت
Yahuq likul ameriki balagha al-thamaniyata ‘ashar min al-‘umur al-taswit.

7) There is no declared holiday on Election Day.
يوم الانتخاب ليس نهار عطلة
Yawm al-intikhab laysa nahar ‘utla.

8) There are two main political parties in America: the Republican Party and the Democratic Party.
هناك حزبان سياسيان أساسيان في أميركا: الحزب الجمهوري والحزب الديمقراطي
Hunak hizban siyasiyan asasiyan fi Amerika: al-hizb al-jumhuri wa-al-hizb al-dimuqrati.

9) The elephant is the symbol of the Republican Party.
الفيل هو رمز الحزب الجمهوري
Al-fil huwa ramz al-hizb al-jumhuri.

10) The donkey is the symbol of the Democratic Party.
الحمار هو رمز الحزب الديمقراطي
Al-himar huwa ramz al-hizb al-dimuqrati.
