Coronavirus Vaccine (1) لقاح فيروس كورونا Posted by on Dec 10, 2020 in Arabic Language, Vocabulary

A few days ago, the UK’s prime minister وزير خارجية المملكة المتحدة announced أعلن that the UK has authorised أن المملكة المتحدة قد وافقت على  the use of the COVID-19 vaccine: Pfizer استخدام لقاح فايزر المُضاد لفيروس كورونا. With this news, UK has become أصبحت the first western country أول دولة غربية to approve تُقِرّ the use of the vaccine to protect against Covid-19 للحماية من فيروس كورونا.

In this blog post (will be in 2 parts), we will be learning some key words and phrases related to the theme of vaccination. To do this, I chose an article from BBC Arabic that addresses this news about the vaccine.

Words around “Vaccine”

Let’s start first with the main word under discussion here, that is “Vaccine” > لُقَاحْ

  • To vaccinate someone (Verb) is to > يُلَقّحْ

The past simple is: لَقَّحَ

  • The process of vaccination is > تَلْقِيحْ
  • Another word that is interchangeably used with تلقيح is تَطْعِيمْ
  • The plural form of the word vaccine is: لُقَاحَاتْ

*Now, let’s look at the two first paragraphs of the article, i.e. from word أصبحت  until القادم – in addition to the first chart that details the groups of people  معلومات عن الفئات who are going to take the vaccine first التي ستحصل على اللقاح أولًا.

After skimming through these two paragraphs, you can start working on this exercise:
