Welcome to the second part of this post where we look at some common greeting phrases بعض عبارات التحية الشائعة in different Arabic dialects. To learn about these greeting phrases, , I’m using a short video clip from “Arab Idol”, an adapted version from the original show – American Idol. Last week, we started looking at the first two conversation and their equivalents in standard Arabic (You can read it by clicking here). Today, we continue with the last two.

١: اسمك

Your name.

Essam Al-mudni.

١: إيش بتسمّعنا اليوم؟

What are you going to make us listen today (What are you going to sing for us today?).

٢: الله يسلّمِك

May Allah protect you (bless you too).

 

١: إيش اسمك؟

What’s your name?

 

٢: هجيرة

Hajeera.

 

٢٤ سنة   

Twenty-four-year-old.

 

    من الجزائر

١: إيش بتسمّعنا هجيرة؟

What are you going to sing for us, Hajeera?

 

٢: إن شاء الله راح سمّعكم فيروز

Please note that many phrases may stay the same as there are common ones that are readily taken from MSA and are used in everyday/spoken Arabic.
