Welcome to the fourth and final part of this post series that focuses on the topic of current migration wave in Lebanon موجة الهجرة الحالية في لبنان, as a result of كنتيجة لِـ the poor conditions in which people are living there الأوضاع السيئة التي يعيشها الناس هناك. In the previous three posts, we have been studying the language used in the report (clip below), using a number of exercises. In this post, we’ll be specifically looking at the Lebanese words & phrases used in the report by learning their equivalents in Standard Arabic and English.

Lebanese phrases, in context

 

Below is a list of most of the lebanese words that appear in the report. You will find the Standard Arabic equivalent (in bold) to each of them, in addition to the example المثال in which they were used in the report.

*Each example in Arabic will be translated into English, so you can understand it in context.

ناطر > ينتظر

مثال: شو ناطرني؟

E.g: What’s waiting for me?

حيا الله > أي مكان

مثال: بدّي هاجر على حيا الله محل

E.g: I want to migrate to anywhere

جينا > جئنا

من ورا > بسبب

مثال: جينا من ورا الإيموشنز

E.g: We came back because of emotions

نفلّ > نذهب

مثال: مضطرين، تنرجع نربّي ولادنا.. بدّنا نفلّ

E.g: We have to, so we can raise our children, we have to leave

مثال: أنا بدّي وضّح شغلة

E.g: I’d like to clarify something
