It’s about the participation of Libyan women مشاركة المرأة الليبية in the country’s fight against Coronavirus في محاربة البلد لفيروس كورونا . The language used in the video is a mixture of Libyan Arabic and Standard Arabic.

 

The report – see below – is 3-minute long and is titled:

سناء المغيربي: ليبية في الخط الأول لمحاربة فيروس كورونا

Sanaa Al-Mgherbi: A Libyan on the frontline of the Coronavirus fight

 

*In this report, Sanna tells the BBC about her job in the Red Crescent society جمعية الهلال الأحمر  and the daily tasks she does. She also talks about her daughter and her interest in  اهتمامها بـ voluntary work العمل التطوّعي.

 

 

1. Vocabulary (A):

To help you understand what Sanaa is saying in the report, I’ve put a list of the Libyan Arabic specific words in the report, the Standard Arabic & the English equivalent to them.

This is half of the list. The other half will be provided in the 2nd part of this post.

Another way of helping you understand what Sanna is saying in the report, below is a list of some of sentences (in Libyan Arabic) that I noted down while listening to the report.

Hopefully, these sentences will help you follow through and understand the rest of the report.

In the second part of this post, you will have the chance to check your understanding of each one as I will provide you with the English equivalent/ translation to each one of these sentences.
