In the previous post, I presented some words that are of Persian or Farsi origin that are currently used in Arabic. These words are treated like any other Arabic word, and most Arabs use them without even realizing that they are not originally Arabic. In this post, I present some more words that are used in Egyptian Arabic in particular and some examples of sentences that show how they are used.

برواز  (Birwaz) = picture frame

بسبوسة  (Basboussa) = a dessert

بلكونة  (Balkouna) = balcony

بقسماط  (BoqsomaT) = toast

بنج  (Bing) = anaesthetic

بهلوان  (bahlawan) = clown

تختة  (takhta) = desk

جنزير  (ganzeer) = heave iron chain

دادة  (Dadah) = nanny

درابزين  (darabzeen) = hand rail

زير  (zeer) = mirage

سفرة  (sofra) = dinning room/dinning table

درابزين  (darabzeen) = hand rail

سمسار  (simsaar) = broker/middle man

شاكوش  (shakoush) = hammer

أحتاج شاكوش لتصليح الدرابزين.

I need a hammer to fix the handrail.

أحب أكل البقسماط في العشاء.

I like to eat toast for dinner.
