This post is based on a very short video clip that discusses the on-going global outbreak الانتشار العالمي  of Coronavirus and who could benefit from يستفيد من the current situation الوضع الحالي  that compelled people  أجبر الناس to stay home على البقاء في المنزل ? As the lady in the video speaks in plain Egyptian Arabic, this could be a good opportunity for Arabic learners who are interested in this Arabic variety in particular. After listening to the clip, you will have a chance to check your level of understanding by working on a few exercises.

The video lists some of the ways in which the only beneficiary of this crisis هذه الكارثة  could actually be benefiting and why. Listen to the video carefully and then try to answer the questions below. The pace is very quick so you probably might want to listen to it a few times.

Although the variety spoken here is Egyptian, the lady is speaking in a plain way where she is still using Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) for the most part (as she’s addressing a scientific issue and Standard Arabic is the variety mostly used in such a context), but her pronunciation is that of Egyptian Arabic.
