Learning a foreign language is often a hard and taxing activity, but at the same time rewarding. People learn languages for all sorts of reasons. Most people quote practical reasons for learning a foreign language, such as wanting to find a good job, to live in a different country; others give intrinsic or personal reasons, such as wanting to improve one’s knowledge, to improve oneself, or to take a new challenge. Every language is unique, and it is often the case that we do not learn a language without learning about the culture in which it is used.
Why do some people choose to learn the Arabic language in particular? I think that there are as many reasons as there are learners, and each one has own reasons for learning Arabic
1- Arabic makes it easier to find a decent job, especially with globalization and the integration of the Arab region with all its resources into the global economy.
2- Arabic makes it possible for some people to travel to the Middle East and even to live there. This is a very attractive option for people who like to live in warm countries or to experience different cultures.
3- There are not that many people in the West who know Arabic, and one who does know it feels very special and unique.
4- A lot of Muslims whose native language is not Arabic learn it to know more about their religion.
5- Arabic presents a new challenge for those who like to take it.

Juan:
I learn arabic because initially it was a kind of challenge to me.
I did not go to a school or take classes, I do not have or feel any preasure or any other need, I found out that it is a beautiful language, elegant, I would say with a mathematical structure that other languages like Spanish, English or French do not have.
I do not need it in my work or in my life, I am not religious but I would like one day to be able to communicate, to undestand the TV, the newspapers etc.

Me personally, I’m learning Arabic because I have a wide variety of friends who speak it (I live in a very diverse area) and I’d like to learn a language that’s a bit out of the norm. Not only is it exciting, but it’s rewarding as well!
