Chinese Zodiac: The Monkey Posted by on Jan 31, 2009 in Culture, Vocabulary

Hello Readers!

Today’s topic is the Monkey.

People born in the year of the (monkey) are known to be quite 活泼 (vivacious) like the Dragon and also 灵巧 (handy).  What makes the Monkey unique is their high dedication to 侠义 (chivalry) and their tendency to 放弃 (abandon) whatever they’re doing to help a friend.  That said, the Monkey can be tricky.  Monkeys love to 说大话 (exaggerate) and have an overwhelming amount of 进取心 (ambition).  Interestingly, while Monkeys often enjoy 读书 (reading books) as a hobby, they are said to be unable to 专心 (focus/pay attention) in other affairs.  One thing is for sure, if a Monkey is looking at a job, then he/she must have 兴趣(interest) or success will be impossible.  Famous Monkey people include: Harry Houdini, Will Smith, and David Copperfield.

Years of the Monkey: 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016, and 2028.
