Christmas Songs in Chinese Posted by on Dec 21, 2017 in Culture, Vocabulary

Christmas (圣诞节 – shèng dàn jié) is right around the corner, and even in China you’ll hear carols throughout the month. Although most people in China don’t celebrate the religious side of Christmas, they sure love the commercial one. There are Christmas trees and lights in shopping malls all over the country, as people take advantage of holiday deals while humming along to Christmas carols. In this post, we’ll learn how to sing a few Christmas songs in Chinese.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas

Jingle Bells

Jingle Bells” (铃儿响叮当 – líng er xiǎng dīng dāng) is just as catchy in Chinese as it is in English, and it’s actually quite easy to learn. Watch the video to follow along and give it a try!

Here are the lyrics, first in Chinese and then in pinyin, which you can print out and take caroling!

Chinese

(4 times)

(2 times)

(2 times)

(4 times)

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

That’s Emperor Santa to you.

If you think Santa flies over the most populous country on Earth, think again! “Christmas Old Man” (圣诞老人 – shèng dàn lǎo rén) can be seen all across the Middle Kingdom. Don’t believe me? Just read this post. This is definitely his favorite Chinese Christmas song.

hēi

Christmas Day

While you probably know all the other songs, you may not be familiar with this one. Exo is a South Korean-Chinese boy band. The 12 members are actually split into two subgroups – Exo-K (for Korean) and Exo-M (for Mandarin). Here’s their holiday hit “Christmas Day” in Chinese, with pinyin and English as well:

思绪 all night 翻身 all night

Just like the Christmas Day 心早已迫不及待
Just like the Christmas Day 像心急的小孩
You’re just like Christmas Day

思绪 all night 翻身 all night

Just like the Christmas Day 心早已迫不及待
Just like the Christmas Day 像心急的小孩
You’re just like Christmas Day

Just like the Christmas Day 心早已迫不及待
Just like the Christmas Day 像心急的小孩
每次想你 等你好难挨 心情肆意澎湃 (no no no no)

You’re just like Christmas Day

English

The expectation in my heart wakes me this morning
The same excitement I get when I open up those presents
Every day I learn more about you

So many lights in this city
But the brightest lights are those inside your eyes
Gently come closer and melt inside my embrace

As I lie half awake I dream of you coming near
Thinking all night, I toss and turn all night
Until the sky lightens up into day

Just like the Christmas Day, I can’t wait
Just like the Christmas Day, like an impatient child
Every time I wait to see you, my heart beats like raging waves
You’re just like Christmas Day

In this white season my breath is cold
Inside my coat only your temperature remains
Only the warmth and memories surrounds us (only the warmth stays)

Fate has given the plain me a gift
Every day I prayed for this
I was faithful and you are my present

In one night the snow covers up everything outside my window
Thinking all night, I toss and turn all night
My thoughts of you pile up without a sound

Just like the Christmas Day, I can’t wait
Just like the Christmas Day, like an impatient child
Every time I wait to see you, my heart beats like raging waves
You’re just like Christmas Day

Just like the Christmas Day, I can’t wait
Just like the Christmas Day, like an impatient child
Every time I wait to see you, my heart beats like raging waves
You’re just like Christmas Day
You’re just like Christmas Day

To all of our readers, let me end this post by saying:

Merry Christmas
