Headed South Posted by on Aug 3, 2009 in Vocabulary

On my flight from Beijing to Shenzhen, I flew 海航 (Hainan Airlines), an airline with such strong 服务意识 (service awareness) that they even distributed 问卷 (surveys) at the end of the flight to get 明确 (accurate) data about the customers.  It didn’t hurt that they had high-quality 餐具 (utensils) in this case referring to a spoon with a deep scoop, a fork with sharp tines, and a knife with a sharp edge and even 玻璃杯 (glasses for drinks) for first class passengers.  Once down to Shenzhen, I picked up a pack of cards which were basically 一模一样 (exactly identical to) American Bee-style 扑克牌 (poker cards) .  Speaking in a 坦率 (frank) manner, I have to say that the price is right with the China-homegrown cards but I still prefer the smooth feel of the original.

  1. Peter Simon:

Hi there! Sorry to disturb the community again with my questions but I have a few nagging ones. First, what do you mean by the utensils? What did they give you? Utensil is a collective noun, could mean a lot of things. If you’d meant cutlery, I’d understand more specifically. I’m happy with the Oxford Pocket Chinese-E dictionary on this one. Then, you said actual ones. Did you expect virtual ones instead? Third, by useable, did you mean that other airlines sort out useless, or non-useable cutlery? Finally, flying down is not really the same as to the South. Down-under is not a really kind English phrase but it’s a jocular customary phrase. But you can’t do a bungee-jump to Shengzhen.
    With best regards, SP

I am Shah. I have grown a strong attachment to Chinese these days.
How long can it go? That i don’t know but it COULD die out if you

    Thanks.
I am MA Eng and dream about becoming an MA Chinese. I love
travelling, blogging, learning mandarin etc. I can teach you
English (only if you need it). I have a good collection of
amazing files. And astonishingly, i want visa on each and
every empty page of my Passport. I love humanity for the
sake of humanity. I can’t bear to see some one with tears
in the eyes. I feel too much about those who need food,
clothes and shelter. Education has been a driving force
so for for me. Sympathy, guidance and love are the things,
i think all the human race is in dire need of which. I want
to share my thoughts with those who know how to hear someone
and who are eager to become good neighbours in the global village.
I hate lies. Cheating is No.1 crime in my book of morals and my
school of ethics. A human being with cheat should not be called
a son of man. He is coward and worse than the very name of hate.
Chinese is my favorite language. I love chinese songs. Chinese
are trutworthy people and they are full of unstained loveful
emotions. Please respond tome positively at:

Wishing you best of luck for now and always.
    IT IS SHAH…………………
