The New Apartment Posted by on Aug 11, 2009 in Vocabulary

I moved into my new apartment in Shenzhen, and it doesn’t seem to have been an old 楼盘 (building).  The view of the 夜景 (night scenery) from the window is quite 壮观 (magnificent).  What’s more- the apartment has good 风水 (feng shui).  It is a 酒店式 (hotel-style) apartment with a 干洗店 (dry cleaner) downstairs.  I’ve never lived in a place with one of those, much less a 电梯 (elevator), 门禁卡 (entrance card), or 鞋柜 (shoe cabinet).  The only drawback is that sleeping in a building so high has led me to 恐高 (fear heights) a little bit.

楼盘 lou2pan2 – building (this term is used more often by realtors)
夜景 ye4jing3 – night scenery
壮观 zhuang4guan1 – magnificent
风水 feng1shui3 – Feng Shui (Chinese geomancy)
酒店式 jiu3dian4shi4 – hotel-style
干洗店 gan1xi3dian4 – dry cleaner/dry cleaning store
电梯 dian4ti1 – elevator
门禁卡 men2jin4ka3 – entrance card
鞋柜 xie2gui4 – shoe closet
恐高 kong3gao1 – fear of heights
