In last week’s post I shared with you three unusual/interesting/creative/funny commercials that currently air or have aired in the Netherlands. Today I will continue with the second part of the list and share with you a further three commercials.

3. Delta Lloyd Groep

Delta Lloyd is another Dutch insurance group with operations in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. This commercial which originally aired in 1999/2000 was brought back again in 2002 in association with the Winter Olympics. Despite the commercial being quite popular, it does appear to be one of those that you either love or hate.

4. Heineken

The Dutch brewing company founded in Amsterdam in 1864 is a company that regularly produces humorous commercials. Their walk-in fridge commercial from 2008 had many individuals laughing from behind their TV screens. Bavaria later created a commercial that built on and made fun of the walk-in fridge commercial.

5. Nuon

Nuon is an energy company. In this commercial they are using a play on words with the word niemand (nobody). I have included the commercial transcript for you below with a rough English translation.

Transcript:

Dit is niemand. (This is nobody.)

Niemand gaat elke dag naar de tandarts want niemand vindt het leuk om naar de tandarts te gaan. (Nobody goes every day to the dentist because nobody finds it fun to go to the dentist.)

Niemand zit graag in de file. (Nobody sits happily in traffic.)

Niemand heeft wat aan een zonnelamp die altijd brand of aan lichtmasten die aan blijven als iedereen weg is. (Nobody has use for a solar light that is on the whole time or stadium lights that stay on when everyone is gone.)

Niemand kijk naar een TV die op standby staat. (Nobody watches a TV that is on standby.)

Niemand geniet de hele nacht van verlichte kantoren of van een verwarming die brand in verlate ruimtes. (Nobody enjoys offices that illuminated the whole night or a radiator that is on in empty rooms.)

Niemand begrijpt dat je snelwegen verlicht die niet in gebruik zijn. (Nobody understands why highways that aren’t used are lit.)
