Visiting Asheville – Beer City, USA Posted by on May 28, 2018 in Culture

Many cities across the USA claim to be “Beer City.” Finally, a poll was created in 2009 to decide once and for all which city could get that title. The winner was Asheville, North Carolina. Other cities won the poll in following years, but Asheville is the original Beer City, USA. This small city nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains is home to almost 30 craft breweries these days.

Visiting Asheville - Beer City, USA

So many choices!

Join us for a video tour of several of Asheville’s breweries, including Burial, Sierra Nevada, and Wedge.

“We begin our Asheville craft brewery tour at Burial. Check out the art and study their tap list. Your best bet is trying a flight to sample several beers. They’ve even growing ingredients for beer here! Their outdoor area is a great place to chill and enjoy your brew.

Nearby, you’ll find Dirty Jack’s – the original tasting room for Green Man Brewery. They’ve got some great decorations, and even better beer.

Another great Asheville brewery is Catawba. These guys were one of the first North Carolina craft breweries and they’ve been going strong for 17 years now. You’ve got lots of choices here, so you might as well go with a flight of eight and share with a friend. When you get hungry, you’ll find a food truck parked outside.

Originally hailing from Fort Collins, Colorado, New Belgium joined the craft beer movement in Asheville in 2016 with a new brewery. Tours are available if you book well in advance. Even if you can’t get on a tour, it’s worth a visit to sample their wide variety of beers. With a location right on the French Broad River, it’s also a great place to hang out. Try a few different styles and you can buy it in cans or bottles to take home.

Over in Asheville’s River Arts District, you’ll find Wedge. There’s a different food truck parked here each day of the week. Beers are proudly brewed and sold right here and not distributed. Check their rotating tap list and order up a pint.

Our next stop definitely is not a micro-brewery. The Sierra Nevada Brewery out near the airport is absolutely massive. This famous California brewery opened a location here a few years ago and business is booming. They’ve got a huge outdoor area, which is a great place to grab a beer with friends. Take your pick from their 23 different taps and get ready for some lawn games.

Back downtown, you’ll find Wicked Weed. They’ve been brewing craft beers in Asheville since 2011, focusing on West Coast hoppy ales and authentic Belgian ales. Grab a few pints and a table and share with friends.

Our final stop is Asheville Brewing Company, who kindly remind you to neuter your pets and your friends who drink macro beer. This awesome micro brewery is a local favorite, so grab a flight to see what they’re brewing.”
