Zidane’s “Headbutt Dance” is Back Posted by on Jul 9, 2013 in Music, Vocabulary

Now that we look back, it’s hard to believe: The 9th of July, 2006, the day Zidane replied to Materazzi‘s cheap provocation with a surprising coup de boule (headbutt), was already seven years ago!

Love it or hate it, to commemorate what was then the most mediatized sports event of the year around the planet, the French recently erected a statue that immortalized that not-so-fair-play moment of French football.

And what venue did they choose to do just that?

In front of one of the most visited landmarks of Paris: The Centre Pompidou, still known under the name of “Beaubourg“!

Faithful as ever to his molto-provocative character, Materazzi seems to still enjoy “crossing the line”—especially the French lines: He went last year to pose for a picture at the feet of the commemorative statue, ignoring the white perimeter that says: “Ne pas franchir” (“Do Not Cross“)  (picture from Materazzi’s Twitter)

A seven-year flashback to the French song that proved to be a huge “soothing” success of national proportions, a day or two after France lost in the 2006 World Cup Final to Italy: “Coup de Boule” (“Headbutt“) by la Plage

Attention, c’est la danse du “Coup de Boule”!
