Never On Sunday is one of the best known Greek movies. The Greek title is Ποτέ την Κυριακή (Pote tin Kiriaki). What about “always on Sunday” or “very often” ? Below there’s a list with the most common expressions of frequency used in Modern Greek and an example of their use.

  • Πάντα (panda)= always
  • Ποτέ (pote)= never
  • Σχεδόν πάντα (shedon panda)= almost always
  • Σχεδόν ποτέ (shedon pote)=hardly ever
  • Μερικές φορές (merikes fores)= sometimes
  • Συνήθως (sinithos)= usually
  • Καμιά φορά (kamia fora) = sometime
  • Συχνά (syhna)= often
  • Σπάνια (spania)= rarely
  • Από καιρό σε καιρό (apo kairo se kairo)= from time to time
  • Πότε -πότε (pote pote)=  from time to time
  • Κάπου –κάπου (kapou kapou)= from time to time

Η Κατερίνα ξυπνάει πάντα νωρίς.  Δεν παίρνει πρωινό ποτέ γιατί δεν έχει χρόνο. Δεν πηγαίνει ποτέ με το αυτοκίνητο στη δουλειά γιατί έχει κίνηση.  Συνήθως  παίρνει το μετρό αλλά καμιά φορά πηγαίνει με τα πόδια. Τελειώνει τη δουλειά γύρω στις  τρεις. Μερικές φορές γυρίζει στο σπίτι για φαγητό ή πηγαίνει στο γυμναστήριο. Πότε-πότε πηγαίνει με τους φίλους της στο σινεμά.  Γυρίζει στο σπίτι νωρίς και διαβάζει κανένα βιβλίο ή κάθεται στον υπολογιστή. Βλέπει τηλεόραση σπάνια. Πριν να πάει για ύπνο,  πολύ συχνά πηγαίνει για περπάτημα.

Katerina wakes up always early. She never has breakfast because she has no time. She never goes to work by car because there’s traffic. Usually she takes the metro but sometimes she walks. She finishes work arount three. Sometimes she goes back home for lunch or goes to the gym. Occasionally she goes with her friends to the movies. She gets back home early and reads a book or works on the computer. She rarely watches television. Very often she goes for a walk before going to bed.
