Γεια σας! Τον χειμώνα ο ρυθμός της ζωής γίνεται πιο αργός. In winter the rhythm of life is slower. Today, we will see some expressions which are used to mean slowly.

#1. αργά αργά: slowly. One of the most common expressions that everybody knows.

Ήπιε τον καφέ του αργά αργά.

#2. σιγά σιγά: slowly

Η Ασπασία μπήκε σιγά σιγά στο δωμάτιο για να μην ενοχλήσει τους άλλους.

Aspasia entered the room slowly in order not to disturb the others.

#3. βήμα βήμα: step by step

Ο παππούς ανέβηκε τα σκαλιά βήμα βήμα. The grandfather went up the stairs step by step.

#4. σκαλί σκαλί: step by step (stair by stair)

O ηθοποιός έχτισε την καριέρα του σκαλί σκαλί. The actor built his career bit by bit (stair by stair).

#5. γουλιά γουλιά: πίνοντας κάτι με αργό ρυθμό. Γουλιά means “sip”

Ήπιε το νερό γουλιά γουλιά. She drank the water bit by bit (sip by sip).

#6. με το πάσο σου: take your time. Sometimes it is used ironically.

Μη βιάζεσαι τόσο πολύ, με το πάσο σου! Το λεωφορείο δεν έφυγε ακόμη… Don’t harry, take your time! The bus hasn’t gone yet…

 

 

#7. σαν χελώνα: like a tortoise

“Μα πώς περπατάς έτσι, σαν χελώνα;” “Πονάει το πόδι μου.” “Why do you walk like a tortoise?” “My foot hurts.”

#8. καθυστερημένα: in delay

Ο καθηγητής συνεχώς έφτανε καθυστερημένα, έτσι όλοι απόρησαν όταν είδαν ότι ήταν ήδη στην τάξη και τους περίμενε. The teacher was constantly in delay so that they were all surprised to see that he was already in class waiting for them.

#9. τεμπέλικα: lazily

Ο Γιώργος χασμουρήθηκε τεμπέλικα και τεντώθηκε. George yawned lazily and stretched out.

#10. ράθυμα: lazily

H αρκούδα κινήθηκε ράθυμα. The bear moved lazily.

#11. αγάλι αγάλι: slowly, with no rush.

Μια παροιμία λέει “αγάλι αγάλι γίνεται η αγουρίδα μέλι”. A proverb says “good things happen to those who wait”. (Literally: Little by little the unripe grape becomes as sweet as honey.)

#12. βαθμηδόν: gradually

Τα χωριά εγκαταλήφθηκαν από τους κατοίκους τους βαθμηδόν. The villages were gradually abandoned by their residents.
