Garden vocabulary in Greek Posted by on Jan 20, 2017 in Vocabulary

A few decades back, in every small house in the city there was a characteristic type of yard or a garden. People who lived in apartment complexes use to grow plants in pots in the balcony. In the villages, every  house had its own vegetable garden where people grew greens and vegetables. There was also place for plants, such as γεράνι (geranium), βασιλικός (basil), μαντζουράνα (marjoram), τριανταφυλλιές (roses), γαρυφαλλιές (carnations). Along with the pots, people used to put their plants in big tins or old water heaters cut in half.

Nowadays, there are few detached houses it the center of Athens, so people have their plants at the balcony. In villages, the situation is the same, except that people use more pots. There is also a  greater variety of plants.

In this post, there is garden vocabulary  and a listening comprehension activity for those who need more practice.
