     @Laura Blumenthal Thank you for your comment. So, on questions 1,2 and 3 for example, it is easy for someone to guess where the family lives, how many children the couple has and the reason why the men at the kafeneio quarrel, without listening.

   I read Greek pretty good and speak Greek — eh — like a Greek American.
   One problem in hearing comprehension is the way a language is spoken in real life. Example: The Greek phrase, “Να σου πω,” is spoken more like: “Να σ’ πω.” It happens in any language. In French, to say “I don’t know,” “je ne se pas,” is spoken “je s’ pas.” Americans and Brits are notorious for these linguistic shortcuts.

     @James Angelo Kalomiris Perhaps you could practice listening and then repeating the same phrase many times. You can practice with a podcast or a video. If you practice every day,even for ten minutes, I guarantee that you will improve.

   Thank you! This is the perfect level for me. There were a few words and phrases I didn’t know, but I understood almost everything comfortably and got 100% on the quiz. 🙂 The speaker didn’t speak too fast and nobody else was speaking at the same time–both are big obstacles for me.

   Μπορούμε να πούμε και “στον καφενέ” (accusative singular of ο καφενές), έτσι δεν είναι;
   Οπότε “το καφενείο” είναι στην καθομιλουμένη ή δεν υπάρχει διαφορά;

     Η λέξη “καφενές” είναι παρωχημένη (dated) και δε χρησιμοποιείται πολύ στις μέρες μας. Μπορεί να τη δεις σε κάποιο βιβλίο ή στο σινεμά ή την τηλεόραση σε μια σειρά όπου όλα διαδραματίζονται σε άλλη εποχή.
