Today’s date: 7th of Tammuz, 5772 – ז׳ בתמוז תשע״ב


Last week I gave you some exercises, readings, etc. to check your Hebrew skills so far. How did you do? This week has the answers, along with audio so you can practice.

Activities

It is 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon and you see Rabbi Kohen (רַב כֹּהֵן – rahb ko-hen):

1. Greet him – שבת שלום רב כהן
2. Ask how he is doing – מה שׁלמך?
3. He asks how you are. Respond. – שׁלומי תוב. תודה
4. Ask him about his family. – מה שׁלום המשׁפּחה?

You’re in Haifa (חֵיפָה‎‎ – kha-ee-fah) and you see your friend’s wife.

1. Greet her – שלום
2. Ask how she is doing – מה שׁלומך?
3. She asks how you are. Respond. – שׁלומי תוב. תודה
4. Ask about her husband. – מה שׁלום בעלך?

Reading Exercise

בוקר טוב מר כרמי.
בוקר טוב גברת וויליאמס, מה שלומך?
אני בסדר, תודה. ומה שלומך?
אני בסדר מדי.
להתראות.
להתראות.

Response Exercises

מה שמך? – My name is…
נעים מאוד. – Pleased to meet you (too)
שבת שלום – Sabbath greetings
להתראות! – See you later!
מֵאַיִן אתה? – I’m from …
