As we go about life, we humans are overcome by a variety of emotions every day. Some of them may be routine irritations like mild anger at a bad driver or traffic; sometimes it may be happiness or pleasure; at other times it could be something as strong fear. In Hindi, an emotion or feeling is called भावना bhaavna.
Here are some ways to express your emotions or feelings when you are speaking in Hindi.
उदास udaas (adj.) = dejected
देश में गरीबी देखकर पर्यटक बहुत उदास हो गए।
(Desh mein garibi dekhkar paryatak bahut udaas ho gaye.)
The tourists became dejected/sad after seeing the poverty in the country.
नफरत nafrat/ghrina (noun) = hatred; प्यार pyar (noun) = love
दुनिया में नफरत की नहीं, प्यार की ज़रुरत है।
(Duniya mein nafrat ki nahin, pyar ki zaroorat hai. )
The world needs love, not hate.
गुस्सा gussa (noun) = anger
मेरे नानाजी को गुस्सा कभी नहीं आता।
(Mere nanaji ko gussa kabhi nahin aata.)
My grandfather never gets angry.
चिढ़ chidh (noun) = irritation
मुझे आलसी कार्यकर्ताओंसे बहुत चिढ़ होती है।
(Mujhe aalsi karyakartaaon se bahut chidh hoti hai.)
I get irritated when I see lazy workers/employees/officials.
जलन jalan (noun) = jealousy ; ईर्षाeersha (noun) = envy
रमेश को अपने भाई की सफलता से बहुत जलन/ईर्षा हो रही थी।
(Ramesh ko apne bhai ki safalta se bahut jalan/eersha ho rahi thi.)
Ramesh was jealous/envious of his brother’s success.
गर्व garv (noun) = pride
अपने बच्चों की उदारता को देखकर माता-पिता को गर्व महसूस हुआ।
(Apne bacchon ki udaartaa ko dekhkar mata-pita ko garv mahsoos hua.)
The parents felt proud when they saw their children’s generosity.
