Common Kitchen Chores With Examples Posted by on Apr 21, 2013 in Hindi Language

Some of our readers have requested the example sentences for my previous post, so I’ve written a new post with the example sentences. As this post has all the content from the previous post with addition of the example sentences, new readers will also find this post useful.

Kitchen is called रसोई कक्ष (Rashoi Kaksh or simply Rasoi) and Example is called उधारण (Udhaaran) in Hindi.

Common Kitchen Chores

1. to make (verb) – बनाना (Banana)
खाना बनाना (Khana banana) – to make food
चाय बनाना (Chai banana) – to make tea
रोटी बनाना (Roti banana) – to make bread
Examples:
A. क्या तुमने खाना बना लिया? (Kya tumne khaana bana liya?) – Have you cooked the food?
B. चाय बनाना बड़ा ही आसान हैं। (Chai banana bada hi aasan hai) – Making of tea is very easy.

2. to cook (verb) – पकाना (Pakaana)
खाना पकाना (Khana banana) – to cook food
Examples:
A. चावल अच्छी तरह से पक गए हैं। (Chawal achchi tarah se pak gaye hain) – Rice have cooked well.
B. तुम आज क्या पका रहे हो? (tum aaj kya pakaa rahe ho?) – What are you cooking today?

3. to grind/pestle (verb) – कूटना (Kutana)
मसाले कूटना (Masale kutana) – to grind spices
Examples:
A. तुम्हें अभी मसाले भी कूटने हैं। (Tumhe abhi masale bhi kutane hain) – You still have to grind the spices.
B. मसाले अच्छी तरह से कुटना। (Masale achchi tarah se kutana) – Grind the spices well.

4. to boil (verb) – उबालना (Ubalana)
पानी उबालना (Paani ubalana) – to boil water
दूध उबालना (Dudh ubalana) – to boil milk
Examples:
A. चाय को अच्छी तरह से उबालना लेना। (Chai ko achchi tarah se pakaa lena) – Cook the tea well.
B. दम आलू के लिए आलू उबालने पड़ेंगे। (Dam aloo ke liye aloo ubaalne padenge) – To make dam aloo, we have to boil some potatoes.

5. to roll out (verb) – बेलना (Belna)
रोटी बेलना (Roti belna) – to roll out bread
Examples:
A.क्या तुम रोटी बेल सकते हो? (kya tum roti bel sakte ho?) – Can you roll out the bread?
B.अभी और कितनी रोटी बेलनी हैं? (Abhi aur kitni roti belani hain?) – How many breads are still to be rolled out?

6. to bake (verb) – सेकना (Sekna)
रोटी सेकना (Roti sekna) – to bake bread
Examples:
A. मैंने रोटी बेल दी हैं, अब तुम उन्हें सेक लो। (maine roti bel di hai, ab tum unhe sek lo) – I have roll out the bread, now you must bake them)
B. मैं अभी परांठे सेक रही हूँ। (Main abhi paranthe sek rahi hoon) – I am now baking the stuffed bread.

7. to broil/roast (verb) – भूनना (Bhunana)
मुर्गा भूनना (Murga bhunana) – to roast chicken.
Examples:
A. आज हम घर पर ही मुर्गा भूनेंगे। (aaj hum ghar par hi murga bhunenge) – We will roast the Chicken at the home.
B. यह प्याज अभी नहीं भुनी हैं। (Yeh pyaaz abhi nahi bhuni hain) – These onions are still not roasted well.

8. to start (verb) – चलाना (Chalana)
चुह्ला चलाना (Chuhla chalana) – to start a stove
Examples:
A. तुम रसोई में जाकर चुह्ला चला दो। (Tum Rasoi main jaakar chuhla chalaa do) – Start the stove in the Kitchen.
B. मिक्सर की मशीन अभी चल रही है। (Mixer ki machine abhi chal rahi hai) – Mixer is still on.

9. to extract (verb) – निकालना (Nikalna)
रस निकालना (Ras nikalna) – to extract juice
Examples:
A. फल का रस घर पर ही निकालना चाहिए। (Phal ka ras ghar par hi nikaalana chahiye) – Fruit juice should be extracted at the home.

10. to wash (verb) – धुलना (Dhulna)
चावल धुलना (Chaawal dhulna) – to wash rice
दाल धुलना (Daal dhulna) – to wash lentil
सब्जी धुलना (Sabzi dhulna) – to wash vegetables
फल धुलना (Phal dhulna) – to wash fruits
Examples:
A. सब्जी अच्छी तरह से धुल लो।

11. to sieve/filter (verb) – छानना (Chaanna)
आटा छानना (Aanta chaanna) – to sieve flour
Examples:
A. रोटी बनाने के लिए आंटा छान लो। (Roti banaane ke liye aanta chaan lo) – Sieve the flor for making the breads.

12. to knead dough (verb) – गूंधना (Gundhana)
आंटा गूंधना (Aanta gundhana) – to knead dough
Examples:
A. क्या तुमने आंटा गूंध लिया है? (Kya tumne aanta gunth liya hai?) – Have you kneaded the bread dough?

13. to pick out (verb) – बिनना (Binana):
चावल बिनना (Chaawal binana) – to pick out rice
दाल बिनना (Daal binana) – to pick out lentil
Examples:
A. मुझे दाल बिनने में ५ मिनट और लगेंगे। (mujhe daal binne mein 5 min aur lagenge) – I will take 5 min more for picking the rice)

14. to cut (verb) – काटना (Kaatna)
सब्जी काटना (Sabzi kaatna) – to cut vegetables
आलू काटना (Aloo kaatna) – to cut potatoes
Examples:
A. फल की सलाद के लिए फल काट लो। (phal ki salaad ke liye phal kaat lo) – For making the fruit salad, cut the fruits.

15. to peel (verb) – छिलना (Chilana)
मटर छिलना (Matar chilana) – to peel green peas
गाजर छिलना (Gaajar chilana) – to peel carrot
Examples:
A. गाजर के हलवे के लिए हमें कुछ गाजर छिलनी पड़ेगी। (Gaajar ke halwe ke liye humhe kuch gaajar chilni padengi) – To make carrot pie, we have to peel some carrots.

16. to put onto the stove (verb) – चढ़ाना (Chadhana)
चावल चढ़ाना (Chaawal chadhana) – to put rice onto the stove
Examples:
A. मुझे बड़ी भूख लगी है, खाने के लिए जल्दी से कुछ चावल चढ़ा दो।´(mujhe bahut bhookh lagi hai, tum jaldi se khane ke liye kuch chawal chadha do) – I am feeling very hungry, you must put some rice on the stove.
