Gita Jayanti Posted by kunthra on Dec 24, 2010 in Uncategorized
Gita Jayanti celebrates the birthday of Bhagavad Gītā. Bhagavad Gītā is not a person, but a collection of sacred Hindu verses. The verses detail conversations between Lord Krishna and the warrior Arjuna. In the verses, Lord Krishna provides advice on philosophical matters such as to how to conduct oneself in the face of an enemy. One of the more famous scenes of the text occur after several failed attempts at peace and Arjuna reluctantly wages war on his friends. Lord Krishna helps out by driving a chariot for Arjuna.
On Gita Jayant, devotees of Krishna and the Bhagavad Gītā recite all the verses.
Other rituals include reeanacting important scenes from the Bhagavad Gītā. The Bhagavad Gītā takes place in the middle of the Kurukshetra War, so scenes from the battlefield are commonly reeanacted.
