Poem in Hindi – Bapu Posted by on Sep 27, 2014 in Hindi Language

Today, I will share a Hindi poem on Mahatma Gandhi (महात्मा गांधी). The poet is describing the personality of such inspiring people who have changed the world with their character and action. Mahatma Gandhi was commonly known as Bapu (endearment for “father”).

Below is the poem in Devanagari fonts (Hindi) with the literal translation in English. I hope that you will try to comprehend the poem with the given explanation. So, here it is.

कविता (Kavita – Poem) : बापू (Bapu)
(Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’)

01/00/1998. File pictures of Mahatma Gandhi

the world worshiped those with tilak ,
threads, and from necklaces of flowers,
I have been worshiping him,
Bapu! till now with burning passion.

Cinder is their decoration,
those who drinks electricity,
in the flame of dizzy branches,
new consciousness is infused.

their diadem, dissipate the fog,
from their fierce shouts.
light is illuminated in the world,
from their flow of blood.

facing the blows of fire,
those who have became glorious from intensive fire,
not only suffer, but also give
answer to the venom with the strongest venom.

Cinder is their defeat, on whose
command time stops immediately,
on whichever direction they give order,
the history tilts in that direction.
