Transformation of Hindi Sentences Posted by on Jan 24, 2011 in Hindi Language

In continuing our grammar lesson on Hindi sentence, in this post I will show you how you can transform a sentence in Hindi from one form to another.

सरल वाक्य (Simple Sentence) to मिश्रित वाक्य (Mixed Sentence)
To make the mixed sentence from the simple sentence, we have to divide the simple sentence into two clauses. We also require conjunctions जो (which), जब (when), कि (that), क्यूंकि (because), यदि (if), जिसने (the one who), जब (when) etc , to join these two clauses to make a mixed sentence.
Example:

Simple Sentence Mixed Sentence
श्याम ने आपने मित्र की गाड़ी खरीदी. Shayam ne aapne Mitr ki gadi kharidi (rom.).Shayam has purchased his friend’s car. (eng.) श्याम ने वो गाड़ी खरीदी जो उसके मित्र की थी.Shayam ne wo gadi kharidi jo uske mitr ki thi (rom.)Shayam has purchased the car that his friend own. (eng.)

सरल वाक्य (Simple Sentence) to संयुक्त वाक्य (Compound Sentence)
To make the compound sentence from the simple sentence, we have to divide the simple sentence into two clauses. We also require conjunctions like और (and), अथवा (and), तथा (or), परन्तु (but), किन्तु (however) etc , to join these two clauses to make a compound sentence.
Example:

Simple Sentence Compound Sentence
सुशील पलंग पर लेट टीवी देखने लगा. Sushil palag par let TV dekhne laga. (rom.). Sushil laid on the bed, watching tv. (eng) सुशील पलंग पर लेट गया और टीवी देखने लगा. Sushil palag par let gaya aur tv dekhne laga. (rom.). Sushil laid onto the bed and start watching tv.(eng.)

संयुक्त वाक्य (Compound Sentence) to मिश्रित वाक्य (Mixed Sentence)
To make the mixed sentence from the compound sentence, we have to divide the compound sentence into two clauses. Then make a clause from the compound sentence, the main clause of mixed sentence and another clause its dependent clause.
Example:

Compound Sentence Mixed Sentence
ताज महल सफ़ेद पत्थर का बना है और यह बहुत सुन्दर है. Taj Mahal safed patharse bana hai aur yeh bahut sundar hai. (rom.).  Taj Mahal is made of white marble and it is very beautiful. (eng.) ताज महल जो सफ़ेद पत्थर से बना है बहुत सुन्दर है. Taj Mahal jo safed pathar se bana hai bahut sundar hai.(rom). Taj mahal which is made of white marble, is very beautiful. (eng)

मिश्रित वाक्य (Mixed Sentence) to सरल वाक्य (Simple Sentence)
To make the simple sentence from the mixed sentence, we have to take care that an adjective from the mixed sentence is transformed to adjective, a noun to noun and an adverb to adverb.
Example:

Mixed Sentence Simple Sentence
जो लोगो ईमानदार थे उनका सब ने आदर किया. Jo log imandar the unka sabne aadar kiya. (rom.) Those people who were honest, got respect from all. (eng.) ईमानदार लोगो का सब ने आदर किया. Imandar logo ka sabne aadar kiya. (rom.) Honest people got respect from all. (eng.)

संयुक्त वाक्य (Compound Sentence) to सरल वाक्य (Simple Sentence)
To make the simple sentence from the compound sentence, we have to divide the compound sentence into two clauses. The main verb from one of these clause will be changed to the verb coming before the main verb in our resulting simple sentence.
Example:

Compound Sentence Simple Sentence
मैं बीमार हूँ, इसलिए आज स्कूल नहीं गया. Mein bimar hoon, isliye aaj school nahi gaya.(rom.) I am sick thats why I didn’t go to school today. (eng.) बीमार होने के कारण मैं आज स्कूल नहीं गया. Bimar hone ke karan mein aaj school nahi gaya (rom.) Because of sickness  I didn’t go to school today. (eng.)
