If you remember, sometime back we have covered the topic on the joining.  Today, let me show you how the opposite, संधि विच्छेद (Sandhi Vicched – Joining Division or Words Division) works.

The words can be divided into two or more words by words division. Not only it will tell you the meaning of all separate words but also how some of the words may combine to form a totally unique word.  Below, you will find some of the words showing how the words division works:

1. स्वागत (Welcome)  = सु (Good) + आगत (incoming)

2. देहांत (Death) = देह (Body) + अंत (End)

3. देवालय (God’s House) = देव (God) + आलय (House)

4. धर्मात्मा (Saint) = धर्म (Religion) + आत्मा (Soul)

5. छात्रावास (Students Hostel)  = छात्र  (Student) + आवास (House)

6. चंद्रोदय (Moon’s Rising) = चंद्र (Moon) + उदय (Rising)

7. सर्वौत्तम (Best of all) = सर्व (All)  + उत्तम (Best)

8. अत्यानंद (Much Joy) = अति (Over) + आनंद (Joy)

9. अत्यंत (Extremely)  = अति (Over) + अंत (End)

10. सचिवालय (Secretariat) = सचिव (Secretary) + आलय (House)

11. सुलेख (Good Handwriting) = सु (Good) + लेख (Lekh)

12. सुर्यौद्य (Sun’s Rising) = सूर्य (Sun) + उदय (Rising)

13. अत्याचार (Oppression) = अति (Over) + आचार (Behaviour/Conduct)

14. अत्याधिक (Excessive) = अति (Over) + अधिक (More)

15. परोपकार (Charity)= पर (On) + उपकार (Help)

16. सदैव (Always) = सदा (Ever) + एव (And)

17. प्रत्येक (Everyone) = प्रति (Every) + एक (One)

18. नवोदित (Newly rised) = नव (Newly) + उदित (Rised)

19. हिमालय (Himalaya) = हिम (Ice) + आलय (House)

20. रेखांकित (Underlined) = रेखा (Line) + अंकित (Marked)

21. चिकित्सालय (Hospital) = चिकित्सा (Medication) + आलय (House)

22. जगन्नाथ (Master/God of the world) = जगत (World) + नाथ (Master/God)
