Na sexta-feira nós vimos a primeira parte do post das 40 expressões com a preposição “on” e hoje temos a segunda parte. Vamos começar a semana melhorando nosso inglês!

21. On pins and needles = nervoso, ansioso. I was on pins and needles because I didn’t know what was going on. [Eu estava ansioso pois não sabia o que estava acontecendo.]

22. On purpose = de propósit. I’m pretty sure she did that on purpose. [Tenho quase certeza de que ela fez aquilo de propósito.]

23. On sale = à venda. Michael Bublé’s new album will be on sale tomorrow. [O novo álbum do Michael Bublé vai estar à venda amanhã.]

24. On second thought = pensando bem. I’ll have chicken. No, on second thought, I think I’ll have pasta. [Vou comer frango. Não, pensando bem, acho que vou comer macarrão.]

25. On speaking terms = de bem, com bom relacionamento. My father and I haven’t been on speaking terms for months. [Meu pai e eu não nos falamos há meses.]

26. On the air = no ar. He was arrested after that video went on the air. [Ele foi preso depois que aquele video foi ao ar.]

27. On the ball = a par, alerta, concentrado. I didn’t sleep well last night and I’m not really on the ball today. [Não dormi muito bem ontem à noite e não estou muito concentrado hoje.]

28. On the contrary = pelo contrário. The test wasn’t difficult. On the contrary, it was pretty easy. [A prova não foi difícil. Pelo contrário, foi bem fácil.]

29. On the dole = recebendo seguro desemprego. He’s been on the dole for five months and I don’t think he’s looking for another job. [Ele está recebendo seguro desemprego há cinco meses e acho que ele não está procurando outro emprego.]

30. On the fence = indeciso, “em cima do muro”. Many consumers are still on the fence, waiting to see if a better, less expensive computer will come along. [Muitos consumidores ainda estão em cima do muro, esperando para ver se um computador melhor e mais barato vai ser lançado.]

33. On the loose = à solta. The criminal is on the loose and we don’t know where he is. [O criminoso está à solta e não sabemos onde ele está.]

34. On the off-chance = por acaso, contando com uma pequena chance. I went to the theater on the off chance that there were tickets for the show left. [Fui ao teatro na chance de que ainda houvesse ingressos para o show.]

35. On the one hand = por um lado. On the one hand, I’d like more money, but I don’t want to work extra hours. [Por um lado, eu gostaria de mais dinheiro, mas não quero trabalhar mais horas.]

36. On the other hand = por outro lado. Traveling is a great way to broaden your horizons. On the other hand, it is very tiring. [Viajar é uma ótima maneira de ampliar seus horizontes. Por outro lado, é muito cansativo.]

37. On the right track = no caminho certo. Tom is on the right track and will solve the mystery soon. [O Tom está no caminho certo e vai resolver o mistério logo.]

38. On the spur of the moment = no calor do momento, sem pensar. It was something I bought on the spur of the moment, and I’ve regretted it ever since. [Foi algo que eu comprei sem pensar e me arrependo desde então.]

39. On the tip of one’s tongue = na ponta da língua. John had the answer on the tip of his tongue, but Anne said it first. [O John estava com a resposta na ponta da língua, mas a Anne disse primeiro.]

40. On the warpath = em pé de guerra, muito bravo. Hollywood studios are on the warpath, trying to bring an end to the illegal copying of movies. [Hollywood está em pé de guerra, tentando acabar com a cópia ilegal de filmes.]

    I’ve become a fan of your blog a while ago and I’d like to congratulate you with your wonderful ideas (like this one). Would it be too much to ask you to do the same with the prepositions IN and AT?
    Another question: does ON CREDIT mean À PRAZO? If so, can we use it in expressions such as “Eu comprei meu carro à prazo”? Thanks and keep up the great job you’ve done so far.
