Mês passado nós vimos algumas expressões em inglês que usam números. Então vamos para a second (segunda) parte de nossa lição. It takes two to tango, so join me and let’s go!

put two and two together – literalmente: “juntar dois mais dois”, ou seja, juntar as peças, adivinhar corretamente baseado em informações

• The police put two and two together and discovered who committed the crime – A polícia juntou as peças e descobriu quem cometeu o crime
• When I saw them at the bar, I put two and two together and realized they were having an affair – Quando os vi no bar, eu juntei as peças e descobri que eles estavam tendo um caso

that makes two of us – somos dois, quando você concorda com o que a pessoa está dizendo

• -I have no ideia what is going on –That makes two of us | -Não faço ideia do que está acontecendo – Somos dois
• -The month barely started and I’m already running out of money – That makes two of us | -O mês mal começou e já estou sem dinheiro – Somos dois

be on cloud nine – estar nas nuvens, ficar feliz quando algo acontece

• I’ve been on cloud nine since I met her – Estou nas nuvens desde que a conheci
• The couple was on cloud nine when the wife found out she was pregnant – O casal ficou nas nuvens quando a esposa descobriu que estava grávida

(to be the) third wheel – literalmente: “ser a terceira roda”, ficar de vela, atrapalhar um casal

• Don’t go with them, you are going to be the third wheel – Não vá com eles, você vai ficar de vela
• Mark and Janet invited me to go on a trip with them, but I don’t want to be a third wheel – Mark e Janet me convidaram para viajar com eles, mas não quero ficar de vela

one of a kind – quando algo é único, especial

• This wine was expensive, but it is truly one-of-a-kind – Esse vinho foi caro, mas é realmente especial
• Spending spring in Venice is a one-of-a-kind experience – Passar a primavera em Veneza é uma experiência única

one for the road – literalmente: “uma para a estrada”, a última bebida, a saideira

• -The bar is closing -Can we at least have one for the road? | -O bar está fechando -Podemos ao menos tomar a saideira?
• Let’s just have one for the road before calling a cab – Vamos só tomar uma saideira antes de pedir um táxi
