The setting: the ticket office of the Galleria Nazionale in Parma
The characters: the ticket seller and an elderly couple

Tired from the long journey and the heat, the couple are trying to make sense of the notice board at the entrance of the Galleria Nazionale:

Marito: “Oggi che giorno è?”
Husband: “What day is today?”

Moglie: “Oggi è domenica”
Wife: “Today is Sunday”

Marito: “Ma quale domenica del mese è? La prima?”
Husband: “But which Sunday of the month is it? The first one?”

Moglie: “Aspetta un attimino, fammi pensare … oggi è il 13, quindi è … la seconda domenica!”
Wife: “Wait a moment, let me think … today is the 13th, therefore it’s … the second Sunday!”

Marito: “Accidenti, dobbiamo pagare! Peccato”
Husband: “Damn, we’ll have to pay! What a pity”

Bigliettaio: “Biglietto cumulativo o solo per il Teatro Farnese?”
Ticket seller: “Combined ticket or only for the Teatro Farnese?”

Marito: “C’è qualcosa d’interessante da vedere nella Galleria?”
Husband: “Is there anything interesting to see in the Gallery?”

Bigliettaio: “Ovviamente dipende dai gusti. C’è un’importante collezione di quadri del Parmigianino e del Correggio. Un’opera di Leonardo, quadri del Canaletto e …”
Ticket seller: “It’s a matter of taste, of course. There’s an important collection of paintings by Parmigianino and Correggio. A work by Leonardo, paintings by Canaletto and …”

Moglie: “Va bene, prendiamo due biglietti per la Galleria e il Teatro”
Wife: “Ok, we’ll have two tickets for the Gallery and the Theatre”

Marito: “Abbiamo più di sessant’anni, perciò abbiamo diritto allo sconto”
Husband: “We are over sixty, so we are entitled to a discount”

Bigliettaio: “Mi dispiace, da luglio dell’anno scorso gli anziani non hanno più diritto alla riduzione, solo i giovani fino ai 25 anni”
Ticket seller: “I’m sorry, since July last year elderly people are no longer entitled to a discount, only young people up to the age of 25”

Marito: “Ma questo è ridicolo! Con la nostra pensione non possiamo permetterci questi prezzi!”
Husband: “This is ridiculous! With our pension we can’t afford these prices!”

Bigliettaio: “Mi dispiace, è la nuova legge Franceschini*, per incoraggiare i giovani alla cultura. Però, visto che sono già le 13.30, perché non fate un giretto per il centro? Se tornate fra mezz’ora avrete diritto allo sconto del 50 percento”
Ticket seller: “I’m sorry, it’s the new Franceschini law*, in order to encourage young people to Culture. However, since it’s already 1:30 pm, why don’t you take a stroll through the centre? If you come back in half an hour you’ll be entitled to a 50 per cent discount!

Moglie: “Mmmm, questa mi sembra una buona idea! Facciamo in tempo a fare un salto al bagno e torniamo. A fra poco!”
Wife: “Mmmm, this seems a good idea! We’ll have time to pop to the loo and we’ll be back. See you soon!”

Bigliettaio: “Arrivederci!”
Ticket seller: “See you later!”

N.B. The timetable at the beginning of this article is not a joke, I copied and pasted the text from the Galleria Nazionale official website, and Geoff then made it into a poster.
I remembered the first time that Geoff and I went to Parma, we stood with our mouths open in front of the Gallery timetable, trying to figure out the significance of the badly written mumbo jumbo before our eyes! In fact some other mystified visitor had actually scrawled on the notice board: FATE RIDERE! (YOU’RE A JOKE!)

*Legge Franceschini: this law, which was passed in 2014, owes its name to the present Minister of Culture, Franceschini.
