“Oh no!” I can hear you all groan, “please … not a quiz about Christmas!”.
Now would I be so cruel my dear readers? No, the purpose of this quiz is to tell me if you’ve been paying attention to my previous posts. And I shall be expecting lots of comments, even from those of you who usually don’t have time to write to us, okay? Because Santa has told me to let him know who’s been a good student. So, if you want a visit from Santa this year you’d better set to work and get those answers coming in, va bene!?

And I get the joke. Since my last name is Columbus and it was changed from Colombo, I had a leg up on it.
Phil
Ted:
Your “joke” about Christopher Columbus is offensive. I think you should stick to what you do best, Italian, and think twice about the sensibilities of your audience.
Geoff:
@Ted boh … pensa un po’!!!
Howard Batchelor:
I enjoy your blog immensely and find it an excellent learning tool. I hope you will write more about the traditional holidays in Italy because those of us who live in Protestant-influenced countries are curious about the pagan elements in your festivals.

paolo minotto:
The joke is not offensive because it’s purpose is a play on words: not a presentation of facts, not a criticism of beliefs, not the promotion of opinions.
A simple play of words.
Whether one finds it amusing or not is another matter.
Geoff:
@paolo minotto Well said Paolo, I probably should have replied in the same way but that comment caught me at the wrong moment, and felt way too personal to me.
Grazie, a presto, Geoff
Phil:
A very simple solution, Ted, is don’t read the blog. If thine eye offends thee, don’t click on the link.
Seriously, Geoff, it’s a wonderful gioco de parole and as a practicing Roman Catholic, I was not offended in the least.
Phil
Geoff:
@Phil Thanks Phil, I appreciate your support, and I too thought the joke was a great play on words which seemed to fit well with the theme of the quiz.
Saluti da Geoff.
Geoff:
Great answers everyone, I’ll post up the quiz solutions at the beginning of next week.
Bill Auge:
