Every New Year’s Day when I was a child my parents made me and my brothers write i buoni propositi per l’anno nuovo (our New Year’s resolutions). My buoni propositi were always the same, seeing that I had failed miserably to stick to them during the previous year:

1. prometto che sarò più ubbidiente e non farò più arrabbiare mamma e papà (I promise I’ll be more obedient and won’t upset mum and dad anymore)
2. prometto che non farò più i dispetti ai miei fratelli (I promise I won’t tease my brothers anymore)
3. prometto che farò sempre i compiti (I promise I’ll always do my homework)

Well, this year I’ve decided that I’m going to revive the tradition for the whole household. So, let’s start with my personal buoni propositi:

Serena:
1. prometto che non farò più arrabbiare Geoff (I promise I won’t upset Geoff anymore)
2. prometto che sarò più ordinata (I promise I’ll be more tidy)
3. prometto che scriverò gli articoli per il blog all’inizio della settimana, non all’ultimo minuto (I promise I’ll write the articles for the blog at the beginning of the week instead of at the last minute)

… now for our seven cats’ buoni propositi:

Mimì: prometto che non andrò più a nascondermi nell’armadio fra le borse di Serena (I promise I won’t go and hide in the wardrobe amongst Serena’s bags anymore)

Cocò: prometto che mi metterò a dieta e non strapperò più i sacchi dei croccantini per mangiarli (I promise I’ll go on a diet and won’t tear open the bags of cat biscuits and eat the contents anymore)

Jenny: prometto che non salterò più in braccio a Serena ogni volta che si siede al computer a lavorare (I promise I won’t jump on Serena’s lap anymore every time she sits down to work at the computer)

Smokie: prometto che lascerò pranzare Geoff e Serena in santa pace senza aggrapparmi alle loro gambe per avere del formaggio (I promise I’ll let Geoff and Serena have their lunch in peace without holding onto their legs to get some cheese)

Gigia: prometto che non sveglierò più Geoff e Serena durante la notte picchiando gentilmente sulle loro spalle solo perché voglio la loro compagnia mentre mangio (I promise I won’t wake up Geoff and Serena in the middle of the night anymore by tapping gently on their shoulders just because I want their company while I’m eating)

Bella: prometto che non ruberò più la sedia di Geoff quando è ora di andare a tavola a mangiare (I promise I won’t steal Geoff’s chair anymore when it’s time to sit at the table and eat)

Amber: prometto che non morderò più le mani a Geoff, e che non mi arrampicherò più lungo le gambe di Serena mentre cucina per salire sul piano di lavoro (I promise I won’t bite Geoff’s hands anymore, and I won’t climb up Serena’s legs while she’s cooking so I can get up on the work surface)

… finally, let’s hear what Geoff’s buoni propositi per il 2015 are:

Geoff: prometto che aiuterò Serena a mantenere le sue promesse (I promise that I’ll help Serena to keep her promises)
