Not long ago, in my blog The Pursuit of Happiness – Part 1., I wrote: “I’m not generally a big tattoo fan”. Well according to an article in the Giornale del Corriere it seems that I’m not the only one:

Scade il 30 Giugno il pagamento dell’ISE (Imposta Sanitaria Estetica), al quale si dovranno adeguare tutti coloro che hanno sul proprio corpo tatuaggi e piercing, finalizzata a finanziare il Sistema Sanitario Nazionale (SSN), un’imposta voluta fortemente dalla Unione Europea e dal CEPCM (Centro europeo per la prevenzione e il controllo delle malattie).

30th of June is the deadline for paying the ISE (Health Aesthetics Tax), which must be paid by everyone who has a tattoo or body piercing. Designed to finance the National Sanitary System (SSN), the tax is strongly favoured by the European Union and CEPCM (European Centre for the Prevention and Control of Illnesses).

Il tatuaggio ed il piercing, infatti, causano lesioni della pelle con infezioni cutanee da stafilococco assai gravi e altre complicazioni come:
– reazioni allergiche
– patologie infettive
– sangue infetto
– l’epatite B e C
– il tetano
– l’HIV, cioè il virus che provoca l’AIDS
– lebbra
– pseudo linfomi
– sarcoidosi
– complicazioni della risonanza magnetica

In fact tattoos and piercing cause quite serious skin lesions with staphylococcal skin infections and other complications such as:
– allergic reactions
– infective pathologies
– blood infection
– hepatitis B and C
– tetanus
– HIV, the virus that causes AIDS
– leprosy
– pseudo lymphoma
– sarcoidosis
– complications of electro magnetic imaging

Dalla fine del 2002 in Europa si sono registrati duecento casi di decesso in seguito a piercing o tatuaggi e oltre 3 milioni di ricoveri ospedalieri.

Since the end of 2002 there have been two hundred cases of death following piercing or tattooing in Europe, and more than 3 million hospital admissions.

L’imposta annuale è pari a 1,58 Euro per ogni cm quadrato di disegno sulla pelle con un aggravio di Euro 19,85 per ogni disegno a tema violento, sessuale o di discriminazione razziale e Euro 6,52 per ogni piercing.

The annual tax amounts to 1.58 Euros for every square cm of drawing on the skin with an extra tax of 19.85 Euros for every drawing with a violent, sexual, or racist theme, and 6.52 Euros for every piercing.

Wow, those look expensive, better cancel that trip to Italy guys!

Il controllo dell’avvenuto pagamento dell’imposta sarà effettuato direttamente sulle spiagge dagli agenti del CDB (Controllo Demaniale Bagnanti) delle Capitanerie di Porto, o a campione per le strade pubbliche dagli ISC (Ispettori Sanitari Cittadini) che potranno effettuare ispezioni corporali ai potenziali portatori.

The control of tax payment will be carried out directly on beaches by CDB (State Bathers Control) agents of the Harbour Master, or by the taking samples in public highways by ISC (Citizens Sanitary Inspectors) who can carry out body inspection on potential carriers.
