Word Lists – 2. Il Soggiorno Posted by on Dec 3, 2009 in Italian Language

Questa è la seconda puntata della mia serie sulle liste di parole dedicate alla casa (this is the second part of my series of household word lists). If you missed part one, you can read it here: La Cucina. I’ve used a bigger type face for the Italian words so that you can print them out, and stick them to the appropriate objects.

Today’s list covers that vital room where we spend most of our free time at home (or at least we intend to!), il soggiorno (the living room / lounge). Ecco la lista:

il divano  (the couch / sofa)

il divano letto (the sofa bed)

la poltrona (the armchair)

la televisione/ la TV (the television / the TV, pronounced ‘Tee Voo’ in Italian)

la libreria (the bookcase)

lo scaffale (the set of shelves)

il ripiano (the individual shelf)

lo stereo (the stereo / the Hi-Fi)

il tavolino (the coffee table)

le tende (the curtains)

la lampada (the lamp)

il paralume (the lampshade, careful with that glue!)

il tappeto (the rug, might be tricky to stick a label to!)

la vetrina (the display case)

il quadro (the picture)

As I mentioned in part one, I recommend that you only print out the Italian words and let the objects to which they are attached remind you what they mean.
