Mother Nature is Angry Posted by Marcel on Jul 23, 2012
As I mentioned last month, the 梅雨 (つゆ/rainy season) runs from late 5月 (ごがつ/May) to mid-late 7月 (しちがつ/July), depending on the area that you live in. As scheduled, the 雨 (あめ/rain) hit during that time, but 今年 (ことし/this year) there was a lot more than average. In fact, many areas received more 雨 in a…

Japanese Dishes Posted by yuki on Jun 25, 2012
Today I’m gonna give you insight into some of my favorite Japanese dishes 日本料理 (にほんりょうり) especially for the hot days of summer 夏 (なつ). Since summer 夏 is around the corner I prefer light and simple dishes which means in my case a lot of salad サラダ and fruits 果物 (くだもの). But since I need a…
The Rainy Season Posted by Marcel on Jun 15, 2012
Well, it has finally happened. The 梅雨 (つゆ/rainy season) has begun! I grew up on the coast of カナダの東 (かなだのひがし/eastern Canada), so I have always been intimately familiar with 雨(あめ/rain), but it was only after I moved to 日本 (にほん/Japan) in 六月 (ろくがつ/June), that I finally understood what the term “rainy season” 梅雨really meant. Note…

It is located between Shibuya 渋谷 and Shinjuku 新宿 and has some interesting landmarks such as the Meiji Shrine 明治神宮 (めいじじんぐう) and the Yoyogi Park 代々木公園(よよぎこうえん). If you are ever in 東京 and you feel the urge to escape…
J-Horror Movies Posted by yuki on May 30, 2012
Like many other people I love watching movies 映画 (えいが). For some irreproducible reason I’m really into scary 怖い(こわい) and blood-curdling movies 映画. I’m especially quite taken with Japanese Horror moviesホラー映画. Maybe I’ll get eye-rolled for liking such mainstream movies like “The Ring” リング or “Ju-on” 呪怨 but I still think they are worth watching. Most…
Spring has sprung Posted by Marcel on May 3, 2012
As Yuki indicated, the seasons have finally changed. Japan saw a colder than average 冬 (ふゆ/winter) this year, with 雪(ゆき/snow) falling in areas that don’t often see it. 東京 (とうきょう/Tokyo) got more snow than it has seen in years! Now though, 春 (はる/Spring) has arrived and the people are rushing outdoors to enjoy the weather…
