Frozen in Japanese Posted by on Jun 3, 2014 in Culture, Grammar

These days, we don’t find too many people who does not know about the movie, FROZEN. This movie is popular worldwide, as you know, and that includes Japan as well. Frozen is called “アナと雪の女王” (Ana to uki no jo-ou) You might already know the Kanji’s here. 雪 is Yuki, which is snow. 女王 is Jo-ou, which is queen.  The direct translation of this title will be “Anna and the Snow Queen. ”

The popular song in this movie is of course the “Let it Go” Here is the Japanese version of the Let it Go.  It includes the transliteration and English translation to go with each line.  Try singing this in Japanese if you are interested, by looking at the words on the top, either in Japanese or in Romaji (Transliteration)!

Anna: Elsa? (knocks)

Anna :
Do you want to build a snowman? Come on let’s go and play!
I never see you anymore, come out the door, it’s like you’ve gone away
We used to be best buddies and now we’re not, I wish you would tell me why
Do you want to build a snowman? It doesn’t have to be a snowman (Elsa: Go away, Anna!) Okay, bye

Anna (knocks):
Do you want to build a snowman? Or ride our bike around the halls?
I think some company is overdue, I started talking to, the pictures on the walls — Hang in there, Joan!
It gets a little lonely, all these empty rooms, just watching the hours tick by…

Anna: (knocks) Elsa?
Please I know you’re in there, people are asking where you’ve been
They say ‘have courage,’ and I’m trying to, I’m right out here for you, just let me in
We only have each other, it’s just you and me, what are we gonna do?
Do you want to build a snowman? (sniff)
