The second part of this series, increasing your Japanese vocabulary is all about how to describe characteristics of “things” around you. It is never too late to start learning new vocabularies, you can start using them as soon as you learn them, it will just be helpful in your daily conversation or in your writing.

One thing perhaps you can try each day is to pick a new word and try to use the new word throughout the day so it will be yours by the end of the day. Make sure to use them in different sentences so it will be part of your ever growing vocabulary mix. The more you know it, the more powerful your conversation or writing style will be. So, let’s get started on today’s lesson.

 

特別な (とくべつな)

Tokubetsuna, Special

 

ここは 私に とって、とても 特別な 場所です。(ここは、わたしにとって、とても とくべつな ばしょ です。)

Koko wa watashini totte totemo tokuetsuna basho desu. This is a special place for me.

 

役立つ (やくだつ)

Yakudatsu, useful

 

この本は とても 役立ちます。(このほんは、とても やくだちます。)

Konohonwa totemo yakudachi masu. This book is very useful.

 

おおまかな 

Oomakana, rough

 

明日の朝 までに おおまかな ドラフトを 私に 出してください。(あすの あさまでに おおまかな ドラフトを わたしに だしてください。)

Asuno asa madeni oomakana dorafuto o watashini dashite kudasai.  Please give me a rough draft by tomorrow morning.

 

重要な (じゅうような)

Jyuyouna, important

 

これは とても 重要な 書類です。(これは、とても  じゅうような しょるい です。)

Korewa totemo jyuyouna shorui desu. This is a very important document.

 

有名な (ゆうめいな)

Yumeina、famous

 

この本は、有名な 作家の 一人が 書いた ものです。(このほんは、ゆうめいな さっかの ひとりが かいた ものです。)

Konohon wa yumeina sakka no hitoriga kaita mono desu. This book was written by one of the famous writers.

 

はっきりした 

Hakkirishita, Clear

 

今週末 までに はっきりした 答えを 聞かせて ください。(こんしゅうまつ までに はっきりした こたえを きかせて ください。)

Konshumatsu madeni hakkirishita kotaeo kikasete kudasai. Please give me a clear answer by the end of this weekend.

 

人気のある (にんきのある)

Ninkinoaru, popular

 

これは、とても 人気のある レストラン です。(これは、とても にんきのある レストラン です。)

Korewa totemo ninkinoaru resutoran desu. This is a very popular restaurant.

 

十分な (じゅうぶんな)

Jyubunna, adequate, comfortable

 

今夜は、十分な 休養を とって ください。(こんやは、じゅうぶんな きゅうようを とって ください。)

Konyawa jyubun na kyuyo o totte kudasai. Please take an adequate break tonight.
