Today, you are going to learn how to say “What” in Korean. There are a few ways to say it in Korean and it is very basic grammar you have to learn.

What:  Formal : 무엇 /mu eot/  Informal: 뭐 /meo/

If “What” uses as a subject, you have to use particles 이/가

Formal: 무엇이 /mu eot e/  Informal: 뭐가 /mou ga/

If it uses as an object, you have to use particles 을/를

Formal: 무엇을 /mu eot eul/  Informal: 뭘 /meol/

 

Please read examples using What below.

To eat 먹다 – 먹었다

What did you eat?  무엇을 먹었습니까? or 뭘 먹었습니까?

To watch 보다 – 봤다 past tense

What did you watch?  무엇을 봤습니까? or 뭘 봤습니까?

Problem 문제

What is the problem? 무엇이 문제입니까? or 뭐가 문제입니까?
