Korean Dolmen Posted by on Nov 15, 2010 in Culture

A dolmen is a stone marker of a grave or burial site. There are several famous dolmens in Korea. Many of these dolmens originate from B.C. times, and are considered important archeological finds.

The Gochang Dolmen (고창고인돌) Site is located in Jeollabuk Province (전라북도). These dolmens are quoted as one of the tallest, largest and varied dolmens in South Korea.

Hwasun Dolmen (화순고인돌) Site. Some of the dolmens in this group are not so perfectly preserved. Like other sites, burial items of the deceased were found underneath the dolmen.

The Ganghwa Dolmen (강화고인돌) Site is reported to contain some of the oldest dolmens in South Korea. These dolmens may have been used in a ritualistic burial for the dead.
