Korean Festivals in July Posted by on Jul 3, 2011 in Culture

In South Korea, the summer months can get unbearably hot!

A great way to cool off this summer is to attend the Boryeong Mud Festival (보령머드축제). This year the Boryeong Mud Festival will take place on July 16th in the city of Boryeong (보령시). There are so many events that you can partake in this Festival. First off there is a mud facial corner where mud is used to exfoliate your skin. There is also a kid’s station where kids can make mud castles. It’s a great festival because it’s a chance for adults to get silly and play with mud, without censure.

Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival (부여서동연꾳축제) will take place on July 21st to July 24th in Buyeo County (부여군). Buyeo County is known for a beautiful pond named Goongnamji Pond (궁남지 연못). Goongnamji Pond is renown for its many different lotus flowers. The Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival highlights the different flowers that bloom every year in this Pond. If you watch the video below, you can see some of the beautiful varieties of these lotus flowers.

The Gangjin Celadon Festival (강진청자축제) will take place on the 3oth of July in Gangjin County (강진군). Gangjin County is in Jeollanam Province (전라남도). Since the 8th century, Ganjin has been an important center for celadon pottery. Celadon is a type of ceramic with a glaze that has a bluish-greenish appearance. The Gangjin Celadon Festival features many celadons on display and for sale. There are also stations where visitors can try their hand at making their only celadon pottery.
