Last week, you have learned progressive “V.S. +고 있다”. Today, you will learn how to use the progressive tense in the past which is “V.S. + 고 있었어요.” In English, it is “I was doing something”. Please read the examples below, they are the same verb I use last week, so you can compare how they are different.
To go –가다
가고 있었다 – 가고 있었어요
집에 가고 있었어요/I was going home.
To eat – 먹다
먹고 있었다 – 먹고 있었어요
밥을 먹고 있었어요/ I was eating a meal.
To watch/to see 보다
보고 있다 – 보고 있었어요
저는 영화를 보고 있었어요/ I was watching a movie.
To meet- 만나다
만나고 있었다 – 만나고 있었어요
저는 친구를 만나고 있었어요/I was meeting a friend.
To study – 공부하다
공부하고 있었다 – 공부하고 있었어요
저는 공부하고 있어요/I was studying.
