Summertime in Norway Posted by on Jun 25, 2010 in Culture, Nature

Nå er det sommertid! It´s summertime now!  Hva betyr sommer for deg? What does summer mean for you?  I can think of many things sommer means for me. Om sommeren.…..(During the summer….)

Jeg soler meg når jeg har tid (I sunbathe when I have time)

-Jeg sykler så mye som mulig (I bike as much as I can)

-Jeg jogger med hunden min (I jog with my dog)

-Når det er veldig varmt, spiser jeg is (When it´s really warm, I eat ice cream)

-Her i Minnesota er det mange mygg (Here in Minnesota, there are a lot of mosquitos)

-Det er bryllupsesong om sommeren i Minnesota (It´s wedding season in Minnesota during the summer)

-Man må klippe gresset minst en gang i uka (One must mow the lawn at least once a week)

-Det er fint å grille på sommernetter (It´s nice to grill on summer nights)

Det er den beste tiden av året i Minnesota! (It´s the best time of year in Minnesota!)

-Jeg liker veldig godt å gå på campingtur (I like to go on camping trips).

-Det er mange råvarer som er fersk og smaker deilig, for eksempel jordbær, asparages, og tomater (There are many raw foods that are fresh and taste wonderful, i.e. strawberries, asparagus, and tomatoes)

So those are some of the things that I think of when I think of sommertid.

What about sommertid i Norge? Many people have a misconception about the Norwegian climate.  Norway actually does experience quite warm temperatures considering her northerly latitudes.  I remember the summer of 2006 in Norway was one of the warmest on record.  I truly felt like I was at home in Minnesota, minus the fuktighet (humidity) 🙂  Not only does it become surprisingly warm during the summer, especially in the southern part of the country, there are many hours of daylight.  In fact, Norway experiences more hours of daylight every year than any other country.

All of the things I like to do during sommertiden here in Minnesota can be enjoyed in Norway as well.  Additionally, kan man klatre fjell (one can climb mountains), fiske i fjordene (fish in the fjords) reise med Hurtigruten på havet (travel by coastal ship on the ocean), se midnattsolen (see the midnight sun), og mange andre ting.

Hva liker du å gjøre om sommeren?  What do you like to do during the summer?
