Today some news for all of you interested in art!
In the Gallery of 19th Century Art in the Sukiennice Cracow, the Museum will be offering “Unfinished Conversations. On Jan Matejko’s Rejtan” (13.02 – 27.05.2012), an exhibition centred around the artist’s most controversial work, “Rejtan. The Fall of Poland” (1866).
The painting became an inspiration for numerous artists and works both more and less faithful to the original and both ancient and modern will be on show at the exhibition.
As part of BENEFACTORS cycle, an exhibition of drawings by Bieniasz, presented by the artist himself, will also go on show at the Sukiennice.
It is there, too, that they will be exhibiting Jan Matejko’s “St. Stanisław Chastising King Bolesław the Brave”, from September until the end of the year. Long acknowledged to have been lost, the painting turned up two years ago in a private collection.
Besides the painting, the exhibition will be showing works, documents and photographs from Jan Matejko’s House and Polish museums associated with St. Stanisław’s life and the reception of both the saint himself and Matejko’s painting.
Definitely check it out if you are in Cracow!
